Snow White - advancing techonology
The multiplane camera
- It is a motion picture used in traditional animation to create a sense of depth and realism by shooting through multiple layers of artwork.
- Makes cartoons more realistic and enjoyable
- Used in further length cartoons
- These layers such as backgrounds, are moved at different speeds and distances from the camera, creating a parallax effect where objects in the background move slower than objects in the foreground.
- A technique where they used to trace over live action footage by frame creating more realistic animation. This allowed artist to make it more realistic or to cut objects from original scene and to add special effects
- A transparent sheet where characters all move in elements and are drawn on with ink and painted on the reverse side
- For Snow White, animations created nearly 2 million drawings. This technique reduced the amount of drawing and painting required for each frame.
- Traditional frames per second is 24 cells
- Getting prime colors and merging them together, creating a vibrant co,lour print
- Uses a matrix and blank and pin belt to create a roll tank
- Means technicolor doesn't fade
- Can only be used once
- Was a complete technological breakthrough
