Audiences and Newspapers
Newspapers target specific audiences based on their political leaning. For example, a Tory is more likely to pick up a newspaper from The Daily Mail, and someone from Labour is more likely to pick up a newspaper from The Daily Mirror.
20 years ago, over 9 million copies of newspapers were being sold each day. This was because they were only printed out and you could not get them online, so this was the only way that people could access the media each day and know what is going on around the world.
Now, under 3 million copies of newspapers are being sold each day. This is because you can now access them online most of the time for free, therefore people are not going out and buying them when they can easily look it up on their phone.
There has been a massive fall since 2014 in circulation, and to this day this massive fall is still continuing. For example, the Daily Mirror has lost 76.56% of its circulation in the last 10 years.
This graph shows that there are 3 big companies which own most of the media. These comopanies are The DMG Media, News UK, and Reach.
This table shows that newspapers are not the most used online sources for news nowadays. This is because social media is a very big thing now and can be used for various reasons, one of them being the news. This means that less people are using news websites and are accessing their news through social media now.
