For a while the film industry has been accused of being too white, too straight, too american, too male, too narrow

2023 Sag- Africa strikes - people of color were saying they were not being represented or paid fairly enough

Representation and diversity have become a huge challenge for Disney

Shang Chi made with a majority Asian cast with an Asian director - better than shoving people into a scene for more diversity

Snow White Remakes

- A safe way of making a profit on a film with a "built in" audience

- Introducing new audience to old stories

- A chance to show how diverse the company is now

- Women of color as main character - "as white as snow"

- Made Snow White a lot more independent

- CGI "magic people"

- Prince character change - addresses stereotype of girls needing to be saved 

- Colorblind casting

- Snow White less domestic role - challenging female stereotypes
